This week last year, I was discharged from the hospital after a 6 week stay, getting told I couldn’t work for a year. This week I’ve landed my dream job as a Recreational therapist working with adults & pediatrics who sustained a traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury. I’m both nervous & excited to get back to work... but it’s about time. They are even getting me special software for my notes & documentation because I can’t type with both hands! ☺️ Rainbow Rehabilitation is a reputable company that I’ve missed ever since I completed my internship there in 2011. My supervisor suggested i work there after my internship , however I did not sit for my national exam yet and this is when my doctor called & told me, “you aren’t going to die, but.... you have a MASSIVE AVM in your brain.” Roles switched quickly. I was once the therapist to people with brain injuries, now I was the neuro patient. After a year and a 1/2 plus of embolizations & radiation treatments that ended up being unsuccessful, it was time for a big kid job & most importantly, health benefits. I applied for a sub acute rehab job in East Lansing not knowing what I was getting myself into. 1) because it was Spartan Nation, 2) because in my college clinical rotations, geriatric WAS my least favorite setting. I was wrong about everything. East Lansing turned out to be a blast & I loved both the clients & residents here! These elders have taught me a lot, almost always brought me a good laugh, & are so full of wisdom.. not to mention the building & grounds at Burcham Hills are absolutely beautiful. The pepper jack cheese & chocolate chip cookies are to die for. Oh & the coworkers aren’t so bad to be with either ;). With that being said , in the back of my mind, I have always missed Rainbow rehab & what they stand (stood??) for. I can’t say enough good things about this company. Ive been waiting for a better time to be back with them. & the time is now! This is a contingent position as I ease my way back into things as recovery & therapy are my main focus. P. S. I’m sharing this to tell you if you want something bad enough, there’s nothing you can’t do! Live fast! Chase your dreams & accomplish your goals. Also, thank you to my therapists, friends, and family for believing in me and getting me to this point ! And my references for saying good things about me! I think.
